Donations

Latta School District participated in a Winter Weather Supply Drive aimed at assisting communities in Western North Carolina who were completely devastated by Hurricane Helene. With the winter season fast approaching, the schools in the district joined forces to gather much-needed supplies for those facing cold temperatures and severe weather conditions.

The Winter Weather Supply Drive focused on collecting essential items such as blankets, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and other winter clothing. These donations were delivered to Paint Fork Missionary Baptist Church in Paint Fork, NC where the items will be distributed to families, elderly residents, and individuals in need in this rural and underserved area of Western North Carolina. The district's initiative comes at a time when weather forecasts predict a colder-than-usual winter, making these supplies crucial for ensuring the safety and comfort of residents.

"Supporting our neighbors in Western North Carolina is an important way for our school community to come together and make a difference," said Latta School District Superintendent, Stephanie Ard. "We were proud to participate in this drive."

The Winter Weather Supply Drive also served as an opportunity for students to learn about the importance of community involvement and helping others in times of need. Organizers of the event have emphasized that contributions, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on the lives of those struggling during harsh winter months.

These donations were well received, and the community was very appreciative.  It was very encouraging to see volunteers serving their community even when they were dealing with their own hardships including flooding, leaks, other damages, and even grieving the loss of loved ones.

The Latta School District would like to thank all of those who participated.
